Joe Gruber

Lead Pastor

Born and raised near Los Angeles, Joe Gruber was a professional skateboarder when he was 20 years old. At 22, he had a life-changing encounter with God and became a follower of Jesus.

Joe’s joy and passion in life is simple—his family and helping people discover and follow Jesus. He has served as both a volunteer leader and staff pastor in a local church capacity for over 20 years, and has worked for several non-profits as well. Joe also spent several years managing a youth and young adults ministry for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

Joe currently lives in Portland, Oregon where he pastors All City Church. If he’s not skateboarding, you can find him running, playing basketball, or spending time with his wife and daughter, whom he considers God’s greatest gifts.

Richard Mulder

Associate Pastor

“Consider asking God if Jesus is real” is one of Richard’s favorite suggestions to all who want to find the truth about God. Immersed in the mid 90’s skateboarding culture and struggling to make sense of our world’s brokenness is when Richard said yes to Jesus.

Using professional skateboarding as his platform, Richard has taken the opportunity to share a life of purpose found in the love of Jesus, and has traveled to more than 20 countries to speak about the kingdom of God. In 2020, Richard started the Mess Halls with Joe Gruber, with the simple intention of helping people learn how to invite God into every area of their lives and create meaningful relationships along the way.

Richard lives in Huntington Beach, California with his wife Sarah, and three boys. In his spare time he enjoys beach days with his boys, watching Manchester United, and cooking.

Steve Hill

Administrator

After choosing to follow Jesus at a young age, Steve Hill began a deeper pursuit of a relationship with God in high school and college. At that time, God cultivated a passion for serving some of the most under-resourced populations around the world.

He has served in the inner city and in countries like Haiti and Uganda, and is experienced at managing disaster relief efforts and fundraising campaigns. In the 2010s, Steve created and managed a charity skateboard ride to raise money for AIDS orphans in sub-Saharan Africa. He remains heavily involved in global health initiatives to this day.

Steve lives in Indianapolis, Indiana where he works full time in biotechnology marketing. He enjoys spending time with his family, skateboarding, biking, photography and travel.

Matt “Coach” Doyon

Camp Director

Matt Doyon aka “ Coach” is a husband, dad, teacher, basketball coach/official, dee-jay and skateboarder. Originally from San Jose, he and his wife recently moved to Redding CA where the Lord has blessed them with a property and a vision to host the Mess Halls annual retreat.

As a child he was very fearful of God, but it was not until his late 40s that he surrendered his life to God and became a true follower of Jesus. Recently retired from coaching basketball, Matt has started to focus his life on serving the Lord and has taken on a role with the Mess Halls by giving devotions and participating in activities that are God centered.

Matt feels that, “people are not bad, they just make bad choices sometimes”. So, he focuses his faith on making choices that are in line with how Jesus lived with the hope of being a living example to those in his immediate and surrounding circles. Matt loves and has embraced the opportunity and his role as an online Pastor for Mess Halls / All City. He looks forward to the future and what God has planned for him and his family.

Alinne Fernandes

Social Media Manager

A Rio de Janeiro native, Alinne was raised on the east coast where she grew up doodling on the back of tithing envelopes while attending Portuguese speaking churches with her family. Ironically enough, Alinne has forever been trying to find and better understand the intersection between creativity and the Creator. She came to seek truth for herself in her teen years where she served in various skateboarding ministries and non-profits. She studied design in NYC where she lived for 10 years but always knew her heart longed for the sunny shores of the west coast. She is currently residing in Southern California where she loves exploring the coast, surfing and nurturing her creative strategy agency.
